Four Ways To Get Your Legal Department On Your Side When Implementing Social Media Strategies

  1. It always helps to approach your legal department with a written document that outlines a social media plan that will already have accounted for any concerns they might have as to the risk of being active in the social media space.
  2. Even slow industries are getting their feet wet in the social media space. Subtle remind your legal department that being slow to adopt gives your competitors the edge – but DO NOT forget that once you turn on the social media facet you can’t just turn off the tap!
  3. Work with your legal department to come up with a plan for dealing with the risks that might come to pass. Don’t just avoid social media – having a plan always works.
  4. Help your legal team understand that using social media can help protect your company in many ways, from the risk of your brand eroding in the public’s eyes as well as being misunderstood.

Vote for the 2009 Peachtree Road Race T-shirt!

For the non-Atlantans, here is a little history on the Peachtree Road Race. The Peachtree is held every year on July 4th and sponsored by the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC). Until recently, in 2008, it was the world's largest 10 K race with 55,000 registered runners. And according to Wikipedia, in 2008 the Vancouver Sun Run had over 59,000 registrants, however the Sun Run is two races, a 10k and a 2.5k; the Peachtree has just one. (Take that Vancouver Sun Run.)

Thus, every year over 60,000 people try to register for the limited 55,000 spots in this race. Why? For the prestigious T-shirt every year (only available to those who finish the race)? The glory? To beat someone's time? Your own personal victory? Perhaps we will never know unless we participate.

Here's a look at some of the other shirts that have been designed over the years.

Arby's Hijacks Atlanta Billboards

Arby's, which is headquartered in our home city of Atlanta, has recently taken over many billboards in the city without having to pay for the expense of actually being on a billboard. How so?

By hijaking the billboards! And for their current campaign, "I'm thinking Arby's" it works pretty well.

Here is a billboard of one of Atlanta's local weather meteorologists, Dagmar Midcap, that was recently taken over by Arby's.

You Can Vote However You Like.

In honor of Election Eve I give you the students of Ron Clark Academy, here in Atlanta, singing a cover of T.I.'s Whatever You Like.

Here are their lyrics to the song:

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

(McCain supporters)
McCain's the best candidate
With Palin as his running mate
They'll fight for gun rights, pro life,
The conservative right
Our future is bright
Better economy in site
And all the world will feel our military might

(Obama supporters)
But McCain and Bush are real close right
They vote alike and keep it tight
Obama's new, he's younger too
The Middle Class he will help you
He'll bring a change, he's got the brains
McCain and Bush are just the same
You are to blame, Iraq's a shame
Four more years would be insane

Lower your Taxes - you know Obama Won't
PROTECT THE LOWER CLASS - You know McCain won't!
Have enough experience - you know that they don't
STOP GLOBAL WARMING - you know that you won't

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA
Stick with McCain and you're going to have some drama
We need it
HE'LL BRING IT
He'll be it
YOU'LL SEE IT
We'll do it
GET TO IT
Let's move it
DO IT!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

I'm talking big pipe lines, and low gas prices
Below $2.00 that would be nice

But to do it right we gotta start today
Finding renewable ways that are here to stay

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA,
Stick wit McCain you gone have some drama
MORE WAR IN IRAQ
Iran he will attack
CAN'T BRING OUR TROOPS BACK
We gotta vote Barack!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

You have the freedom to choose. Isn't that great?

If you don't know the story of how the Ron Clark Academy started, you should. It's really inspirational. It was even made into a tv movie starring Matthew Perry as Ron Clark.
